Poking Arm Swag

Truthfully I have never really being much of an accessory girl, I am the type of person that with a little neck chain and a pair of earrings feels pretty and accessorized.  Nevertheless as my starvation to further learn about fashion grew, I was quiet mesmerized by the combination of accessories that some fashion moguls are constantly showing off.  That and the help of my good friend ELDA, who owns a fabulous shop in Valencia Venezuela @FatuaValencia, my very personal accessory guru, I am slowly coming around to the whole fashion accessory deal. Honestamente nunca fui una niña con inclinación hacia el uso de muchos accesorios, de hecho todavía me considero el tipo de persona que con una cadenita y un par de zarcillos, luce bien y lleva la cantidad necesaria. Sin embargo, a medida que mi curiosidad por aprender más sobre la moda internacional se incrementa, me he sentido cautivada por las combinaciones que presentan algunas personalidades hoy en día. Eso más la ayuda y consejos de mi gran amiga Elda (dueña de una tienda súper fabulosa en Valencia, Venezuela – @FatuaValencia) una verdadera gurú en el tema de los accesorios, poco a poco me estoy adaptando a todo eso del “uso de accesorios”. A Quick Trip to the North East

Couple of weeks ago I journeyed to New York and then Boston to vote on the last Venezuelan Presidential Elections (way too complicated to explain why I had to go there to vote and even more complicated the whole elections deal so I’ll avoid blogging about that).  Although the result wasn’t what I wished for, its always nice to visit to both cities, specially during fall. Unlike many people who prefer spring or summer as their favorite season, I am a FALL lover. The weather, the colors just enamored me every time, and I do look very cute wearing fall fashion clothing :). I had the chance to wear tweeds, booties, scarfs, sweaters and a little leather! Cant complain really; besides going to New York its always a happy experience for me. I think many writers have try to describe what New York is too them and to be honest no one pays it justice. New York its simply New York and more than a city, to me, its a state of a feeling, a state of mind (Very Jay Z of me…) I had the chance to see friends and visit amazing places. I had lunch at Sarabeth (40 Central Park S) got to enjoy a drink at Le Bain (Amazing view of the city in this terrace at  the Standard Hotel) walk up all of Madison, luckily didn’t find a traumatizing line at Ladureé so I had some macaroons and got to see the Lanvin promotion; Also had a wonderful dinner at the Hurricane Club (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)  and enjoyed the Met . The most impressive though, was how far along and how beautiful the Freedom Tower is coming up. All of these just in a day an half… pretty good if you ask me.

Boston… well voted there, but also had a nice walked up Newburry Street with the family (uncle and cousin were there) and a couple of nice lunches with the them too. Had my Boston clam chowder and a good old Sam Adams… Got to give it to Boston! Amazing Beer!

Wish my emotional state was a bit different probably would of enjoy it more but both cities are wonderful and somehow one always finds a way to have a good time. Here some pics…

Hace unas semanas tuve la oportunidad de viajar a Nueva York y a Boston con la razón de ejercer mi derecho a voto como Venezoelana en las últimas elecciones presidenciales. Es demasiado complicado explicar el porqué de mi voto allá y aun mas complicado es entrar en el tema político, así que lo voy a evadir. Aunque el resultado no fue lo que yo esperaba siempre es muy agradable visitar ambas ciudades, especialmente durante el otoño. A diferencia de muchas personas quienes prefieren la primavera o el verano como sus estaciones favoritas, yo soy una fanática del otoño. Me encanta su clima, los colores que genera; es un ambiente que me enamora cada vez que lo vivo, además que me veo súper linda usando mis atuendos de otoño. Tuve la oportunidad de vestir botines, chaquetas tejidas, bufandas, suéteres y hasta un poco de cuero! No me puedo quejar. Además ir a Nueva York siempre es una experiencia que me hace muy feliz. Siento y pienso que muchos escritores han tratado de poner en palabras lo que esta ciudad significa para ellos, pero a mi criterio no le hacen justicia. Nueva York es simplemente Nueva York, y mas que una ciudad, para mi es un sentimiento, un pensamiento. Tuve la oportunidad de ver algunas amistades y visitar lugares fantásticos. Almorcé en Sarabeth (40 Central Park S), disfruté de un cocktail en Le Bain (Terraza en el hotel Standard donde la vista de Nueva York es increíble), caminé toda la avenida Madison y tuve la suerte de no encontrar una gran fila para comprar Macaroons en Ladureé, los cuales estaban deliciosos, y además pude ver la colección de Lanvin. También tuve una cena fabulosa en el Hurricane Club (SUPER RECOMENDADO) y disfruté del museo Metropolitan. Lo mas impresionante fue ver lo alta y hermosa que esta quedando Torre de La Libertad (monumento/edificio que conmemora los ataques del 11 de septiembre). Todo esto en un día y medio! Bastante bien si me preguntan. En Boston voté, pero también tuve una caminata linda en las calles de Newburry junto a mi tíos y mi prima, con quienes compartí un par de almuerzos. Comí mi sopa de almejas y me tome la clásica Sam Adam. Hay que reconocerlo, en Boston siempre con las mejores cervezas!

Hubiera deseado un estado emocional un poco más feliz en el viaje, creo que lo hubiera disfrutado más, pero ajeno a mis ánimos son ciudades hermosas y el tiempo fue placentero. Aquí algunas fotos

 

Coq Au Vin… NOT

I think over the years I tricked my self into thinking I was a good cook, but now that I have to cook daily for myself and the boyfriend (and lets face it I am older I can’t go on life eating a tuna salad or a nutritionally deprive meal) I realized I’m not such a great of a cook. Actually as Carry Bradshaw said once “Im more Coco Chanel less Coq Au Vin”… But I am trying to improve. To my luck the boyfriend, who I thought wasn’t that great of a cook, turn out to be quite a Chef at times. This past sunday he made me a green apple, lettuce, tomato, purple onion and celery salad with grated lime crust in it. I know delicious! he also cooked a grilled salmon which he sliced himself. I just broiled some potatoes and add some condiment too them, but they tasted nice! I will be working harder on my “gooping/cooking” skills… In the mean time I’ll get to enjoy a nice meal every now and them!

Durante los últimos años me he “auto-engañado” al creer que era una cocinera decente, pero ahora que soy responsable de preparar mis propias comidas junto a las de mi novio (y seamos honestos, estoy más adulta y no puedo comer todos los días latas de atún o comidas cuya nutrición sea cuestionable), me he dado cuenta que no soy tan buena cocinera como yo pensaba. De hecho, así como una vez Carrie Bradshaw lo dijo sin duda soy “Más Coco Chanel y Menos Coq Au Vin”… pero les prometo que estoy tratando de mejorar. Para suerte mi novio, quien pensé que no era tan buen cocinero, resultó ser todo un Chef. El pasado domingo me preparó una ensalada de manzanas verdes, lechuga, tomate, cebollas moradas y céleri con raspadura de limón… deliciosa lo se! y como si fuera poco, lo acompañó con un salmón a la plancha el cual el mismo fileteó. Yo solo puse a hervir unas papitas y las condimenté, sabían súper bien eso si! Seguiré trabajando en mis dotes de goop/cocinera, pero mientras eso pasa, puedo disfrutar de una comida rica de vez en cuando!.

I am Malala

The fourteen year old Pakistani girl, blogger and activist, Malala Yousafzai, was shot on October 9th by a Taliban gunmen as she returned home from her school.  She was taken to the UK after being shot in her head and neck. Thank God the doctors say she has a good chance to recover. Lets Hope So!.

You might wonder why a fourteen year old girl is such a threat to the Taliban movement. Well at the age of eleven she started blogging under a pseudonym for the BBC detailing her life under the Taliban rule, and how they attempted to control the valley where she lives. She also wrote her views on promoting girls education on islamic communities.

Her life was filmed by the New York Times in a documentary that got mixed with the Pakistani military intervening the region culminating the Second Battle of Swat.

The little girl began to earn a prominent name, she started given out interviews to newspapers and TV Shows. She was named chairperson of the District Chid Assembly Swat. She was nominated by Nobel Price South African Winner Desmond Tutu for the International Children’s Peace Prize and she was the first Pakistan to ever won the National Youth Prize.

This little and remarkable fourteen year old was shot a few days ago because she was brave; she was shot because she had a voice. She still unconscious and the world awaits for her recovery. Apparently her dad’s life was on danger too.

There is a United Nations Petition using the slogan ” I am Malala” demanding that all children worldwide will attempt school by 2015. But more than a petition we must all pray for the life of this little Hero.

Thanks Malala I love you and admire you. Your Courage have to and must Change this World.

Soy Malala

La niña Paquistaní de catorce años Malala Yousafzai, conocida como blogger de la BBC y activista de los derechos infantiles en países islámicos, fue disparada en el cuello y en la cabeza el pasado nueve de octubre por un Taliban mientras ella regresaba a casa del colegio. Fue llevada casi inmediatamente a el Reino Unido donde, al parecer, tiene un buen chance de recuperarse. Recemos por eso.

Se deben preguntar por qué una niña de catorce años es una amenaza para el movimiento Taliban. Les cuento que a la edad de once años empezó a escribir un Blog para la BBC bajo un seudónimo donde hablaba del régimen Taliban y como trataban de controlar la villa donde ella vive. También empezó a escribir sus ideas sobre como promover y mejorar la educación de las niñas en la comunidad islámica.

Luego su vida fue filmada por The New York Times en un documental que se mezcló con la intervención militar de Paquistán en la región donde vive.

La pequeña empezó a convertiste en una eminencia, su nombre empezó a ser reconocido y aceptó ser entrevistada por diferentes medios de comunicación, tanto en prensa como televisión. Fue nombrara miembro del Distrito de Asamblea de Niños Swat. Fue nominada por Desmond Tutu, el Surafricano ganador del premio Nobel, para los Premios Internacionales de Niños por la Paz y fue la primera ganadora de Paquistán en recibir el premio Nacional de la Juventud.

La pequeña pero grandísima niña de catorce años sufrió un ataque contra a su integridad. Le dispararon por tener una voz y ser valiente. Sigue inconsciente y el mundo entero espera y reza por su recuperación. Al parecer la vida de su padre estaba en riesgo también.

Las Naciones Unidas bajo el slogan “Soy Malala” demanda que todos los niños a nivel mundial atiendan a las escuelas para el 2015.

Pero mas allá de una petición todos debemos rezar por esta pequeña heroína.

Gracias Malala Te Quiero y Admiro. Tu coraje debe y va a cambiar este Mundo.

Just to Honor…

The least I could do was a drink a Red Bull after Felix Baumgartner skydive from the stratosphere from 39thousand meters high (127,000 ft). I mean him and the Red Bull Stratos team are by the far the bravest most outrageous people on earth… I have to skydive before the year comes to an end. This was a complete inspiration.

Lo mínimo que podía hacer después de que Félix Baumgartner hiciera un salto de caída libre desde la estratosfera a una distancia de mas de 39mil metros de altura era tomarme un Red Bull. Este hombre y el Equipo Red Bull Stratos pueden que sean las personas más valientes y a su vez más increíbles es este planeta. Antes que termine el año debo realizar un salto en paracaídas, toda esta hazaña sirvió de inspiración
